Description
The video What are nature-based solutions? introduces the viewer to nature-based solutions as actions that protect, restore or sustainably manage natural ecosystems to address environmental and community challenges. The nature-based solutions that are highlighted are:
- Taking care of wetlands to reducing flooding and protect cities from extreme weather.
- Increasing natural areas to increase the number of pollinators to increase food access.
- Protecting forests to capture and store carbon to help fight climate change.
- Taking care of natural areas to keep contaminants our of rivers and lakes to protect the water supply.
The video concludes by reinforcing that humans depend on healthy ecosystems by stating that "if we take care of nature, nature will take care of us". The video also stresses that investing in nature-based solutions stregthens environmental protection while delivering community benefits such as clean water, reduced climate risk, and more sustainable food systems.
