The Sacred Balance examines our place in the natural world in the light of the sweeping environmental changes and the advances in scientific knowledge. Part 1 argues that we have lost the perspective of our indigenous ancestors who saw the world in terms of the sacred elements of earth, air, fire and water and saw ourselves as part of that world.
A new perspective has emerged that sees the earth's resources as limitless and there for our exploitation - an exploitation made more threatening by our growing numbers and our scientific knowledge. This perspective in turn has been challenged by a paradigm shift as we view the fragility of planet from space.
Part 1 of A Sacred Balance begins a discussion on the relationship between people and the planet. In doing so it touches upon a number of issues and therefore a variety of subject areas.
