The 'Hydrological Cycle' introduces students to the water cycle. Beginning with an explanation of the distribution of water on earth, the video then traces the movement of a water droplet as it travels through each reservoir and step in the cycle (evaporation, condensation and precipitation). Attention is also given to how clouds form and the limited amount of water that is available for consumption. Students are guided step by step through a hands-on experiment in which they form clouds and create their own water cycle in a glass bottle. Emphasis is placed on the need for conservation and on how to limit water waste at home.
An optional quiz is available on the website consisting of four questions that can be used to assess student learning.
The Hydrological Cycle video is well suited for the elementary science classroom. It could be used either introduce the water cycle or solidify the students' learning as a culminating activity.
