In this outdoor activity, students will use their senses to explore the natural environment and make a connection to nature in their community. In an outdoor space, each student will find a comfortable spot away from others. A timer can be set and the students will simply observe how many things they can smell, feel (emotionally and physically), hear and see during the pre-determined time. After the time is up, a discussion can be held to share observations and reflections. There are links to explore and identify any birds that may be seen during the activity as well. This activity can be repeated at various times of the day and year in order to discover changes that occur in the location.
