Protect Our Oceans

Secondary

Description

Legendary ocean researcher Sylvia Earle shares astonishing images of the ocean - and shocking statistics about its rapid decline. Earle believes that with knowing comes caring ...but first we have to know about "the blue heart of the planet" and the threats posed by melting sea ice, acidification, over fishing, pollution and other .trends that affect the health of the oceans. The video is accompanied by a number of other resources that allow students to investigate these issues and others in some depth.

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

The video will serve as an effective introduction to an examination of the health of our oceans. Discussion could be followed by an exploration of specific issues such as acidification, pollution, melting sea ice and over fishing. Such issues are addressed in various units found in courses such as Environmental Science, Geography, and World/Global Issues. The video might also be used as part World Ocean Day activities.
