Norma's Story

First Hand Climate Change Stories

Elementary, Middle

Description

Norma's Story documents the profound effect of climate change on the environment, culture and food security of the Vuntut Gwitchin people of the Northern Yukon.

The video gives a first hand account of the effects of climate change and the resulting dramatic changes in the northern peoples way of life in just a few short decades in the words of Norma, a Gwitchin woman. Norma recounts proudly the ways of her people from her childhood.  She describes their profound respect for all living things and how her family lived off the land. She shares her grandfather foreshadowing the hard times to come with changes in the land and water.
