Natural Inquirer

Elementary, Middle

Description

During this lesson plan, students will be using research techniques to learn about an animal or plant affected by climate change. The main purpose of this activity is for students to appreciate the wide range of life forms in Canada that must adapt, relocate, or perish because of the impacts of climate change.

Students will:

  • choose an animal or plant to "interview
  • write a series of pertinent questions, using magazines, field guides, library books, the Internet, and the resources listed below to find appropriate answers to questions
  • write an illustrated article about the species
  • identify species sensitive to the impacts of climate change

General Assessment

Recommendation of how and where to use it

Natural Inquirer is a resource that supports outcomes touching diversity of living things and the effects of climate change. It helps the students understand how animals adapt to their environment and habitat to survive. It is best suited for the upper elementary and early middle school years.
