Description

This story follows 10-year-old Lily as she experiences a growing sense of eco-anxiety while learning about the impacts of climate change on the world around her. Concerned about the future, Lily learns more about climate change online and discovers unsettling information about global warming, melting ice caps, rising sea levels, and wildfires. Although she searches for hopeful news, she becomes overwhelmed by a constant stream of negative stories, increasing her worries about the marsh and its wildlife.

That night, Lily’s anxiety follows her into a dream in which her favourite natural area has been transformed into a dry, lifeless wasteland. She wakes feeling troubled and wonders whether her dream could one day become reality. Determined to make a difference, Lily joins her school’s Eco Club, where she finds a supportive community of friends who share her concerns. Together, they develop creative projects, from planting milkweed to support butterfly migration to organizing a fundraiser for an environmental conference. Through these experiences, Lily discovers that small actions can make a meaningful difference and that working together can lead to real change.

This e-book provides an accessible entry point for Grades 4–6 students to learn about climate change. Through a diverse cast of relatable characters who work together to address environmental issues, students explore real-world impacts of climate change while being introduced to the concepts of eco-anxiety and collective action. The book would work particularly well as a read-aloud or discussion starter, followed by an inquiry or action-based activity. It provides an accessible way to introduce the emotional dimensions of climate change while emphasizing hope, resilience, collaboration, and meaningful action rather than leaving students focused on the problem alone.
