Signs of Fall

Elementary

Description

Students participate in a guided walk through the schoolyard, their neighbourhood or any area where there are trees and signs of fall are evident.  Prior to the outing, students learn about some of the differences between evergreen and deciduous trees.   During the walk they are asked to:

  • identify examples of deciduous and evergreen trees
  • collect a variety of leaves
  • note any signs of fall

Upon returning to the classroom, students create leaf rubbings with the specimens collected and learn why leaves change colour in the fall.
