Description
Students learn about the role of globalization in developing societies, different theories of differential development and key institutions of international development.
The activity centers around development of a grant proposal which uses one of the four strategies of development (Poverty Reduction, Trade-Not-Aid, Good Governance or Sustainable Development).
General Assessment
Strengths
- Interesting resource with a great deal of background information for both student and teacher.
- All required materials are provided.
- Assessment options are available.
- The purpose of the activity is clealy stated and reinforced throughout.
- Support is offered through links to web-based resources.
Weaknesses
- Self-assessment, reflection/values clarification and action opportunities are not part of the resource.
To enhance this resource the following changes would be beneficial:
- Add to the debriefing activity so that students examine what they have learned and reflect on how they feel.
- Identify and encourage action opportunities.
