Description
This resource is about the issue of HIV/AIDS in Africa. It includes a teacher's guide, reading activities, projetcs, extensions and an evaluation tool. It also includes resources for further research on the topic. Time is not specified but must be an average of 60 min per lessons. Grade 10 to 12.
General Assessment
Strengths
The resource is interesting and offers good quality background information for both teachers and students. The resource is easy to use and provide all the material needed for the activities. It also includes a quality section on extra resources available on the topic. The goals of the activity are clearly stated.
Weaknesses
No other weaknesses other than the suggestions I have made above.
To enhance this resource the following changes are strongly recommended:
It would be essential that controversial points of view be included in the reading material for the students and that suggested questions be included to guide students reflection. The issue could also be introduced by having students reflecting on the impact of HIV in their own community then moving towards the issue in Africa. An action project should also be added and included in the integral part of the resource and not only as an extension. This would greatly empower students.
To enhance this resource the following changes would be beneficial:
